Scope and Motivation
One of the important visions of 6G is to achieve native intelligence. The emergence of new intelligent services and access to massive and intensive intelligent devices have put forward new demands for the future 6G network. Modern communication systems only focus on transmitting and restoring the source signal observed and received by the sending sensing device, while ignoring the semantics contained in the signal, which inevitably limits its performance in the era of the Internet of Things. 6G semantic communication is expected to greatly improve communication efficiency and improve user experience quality by integrating users' information needs and semantics into the communication process and also shows great potential in reducing network traffic and alleviating spectrum shortage. Semantic cognitive networks will also become the basis for resource-sharing and intelligent interaction between massive intelligent devices and networks. Therefore, we are calling for outstanding papers in the research fields of basic theories and key technologies of semantic communication, semantic cognitive network architecture and networking methods, semantic communication applications, semantic communication standardization, etc. from experts and scholars engaged in semantic communication research to conduct discussions and exchanges and share the latest research results in semantic communication.
Topics
In this special issue, we introduce the fundamental theme of semantic communication, with the aim of attracting research across various disciplines into the theories, technologies, and engineering methodologies of semantic communication. We invite submissions on a range of topics which include, but are not limited to, the following:
? Information theory in semantic communication
? Semantic information transmission
? Semantic representation
? Semantic encoding and signal processing
? End-to-end semantic communication systems
? Performance assessment of semantic communication
? Network architecture and protocols in semantic communication
? Resource management within semantic communication
? Privacy and security aspects of semantic communication
? Applications of semantic communication
? Integration of AIGC and semantic communication
Submission
This special issue of Semantic Communication welcomes submissions of high-quality, novel research results. All submissions will be anonymously peer reviewed and will be evaluated on the basis of their technical content. Papers should be submitted online through the manuscript submission system of The Journal of China Universities of Posts and telecommunications. Remember to select “Special Issue on Semantic Communication” as your manuscript type when submitting; otherwise, it might be considered as a regular paper. Information and guidelines on preparation of manuscript are available on the journal website: https://jcupt.bupt.edu.cn/.
